Radiohead~the band
Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Colin Greenwood, and Phil Selway. They have worked with producer Nigel Godrich and cover artist Stanley Donwood since 1994. After signing to EMI in 1991, Radiohead released their debut single "Creep" in 1992. Their popularity and critical standing rose in the United Kingdom with the release of their second album, The Bends (1995). Radiohead's third album, OK computer (1997), propelled them to international fame. Radiohead's sixth album, Hail to the Thief (2003) was the band's final album for EMI. Radiohead had sold more than 30 million albums worldwide by 2011.1- How long have they been together? ~ The band, radiohead have been together since 1985.
2- How would you categorise their music? ~ I would categorise their music into the genres alternative rock, art rock and electronic music.
3- How are they represented in their promotional material (videos, photos etc.)? ~ In my opinion, i view this band as quite bizarre and abstract as they explore different and 'unusual' ideas/genres of music from mainstream.
A Moon Shaped Pool~the album
A Moon Shaped Pool is the ninth studio album by the English rock band Radiohead, released digitally on 8 May 2016. CD and LP releases followed in June 2016 through XL Recordings. Radiohead’s ninth album was viewed in some quarters as the group backing away from their usual existential angst and instead looking internally and opening up. On the face of it, A Moon Shaped Pool was a finishing school for many of the band’s song ideas. That track’s evolution from sketchy guitar number into a beautifully wrought, bossa-nova -tinged ballad was typical of an album where the band married sensitive subjects with a lightness of touch. This was a Radiohead record where things rarely kicked off, where restraint ruled and where everything was pared back, be it the guitar-playing of Jonny Greenwood or the band’s love of electronica.Burn the witch~song and video
"Burn the Witch" is a song by the English rock band Radiohead, released on 3 May 2016 as the lead single from their ninth studio album, A Moon Shaped Pool (2016). Radiohead developed the song for over a decade, first working on it during the sessions for their fourth album, Kid A (2000). "Burn the Witch" was accompanied by a stop-motion animated music video that pays homage to the 1960s British children's television programme Camberwick Green and the 1973 British horror film The Wicker Man. Some critics interpreted the lyrics and video as a warning against groupthink and authoritianism. The song received positive reviews and was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.Chris Hopewell~the video director
Chris Hopewell is an English music video director. He has directed videos for Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Scissor Sisters, Louis XIV, The Knife, The Offspring and several other bands. He choreographed multiple music videos for the band, Radiohead.
The Wicker Man(1973)
A 1970's film about, a police sergeant is sent to a Scottish island village in search of a missing girl whom the townsfolk claim never existed. Stranger still are the rites that take place there. The director of the film is Robin Hardy and the film stars: Edward Woodward, Christoper Lee and Diane Cliento. The plot of the film is where; Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) arrives on the small Scottish island of Summerisle to investigate the report of a missing child. A conservative Christian, the policeman observes the residents' frivolous sexual displays and strange pagan rituals, particularly the temptations of Willow (Britt Ekland), daughter of the island magistrate, Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee). The more Sergeant Howie learns about the islanders' strange practices, the closer he gets to tracking down the missing child.
The Trumptonshire Trilogy (1966-1969)
These were 3 seperate, but inter-connected,animated BBC tv series designed for pre-school children.First broadcast in the Beeb's famous "Watch With Mother" lunchtime slot between 1966 and 1969.And still being shown on NickleOdeon and available, digitally restored,on both dvd and Blu Ray.
Each series titles was a seperate location within the fictional English county of Trumptonshire.
There were no talking animals, mythical beings or magical forces at work here.Just normal people going about their normal, everyday business. But never mundane,as each 15 minute episode threw up a new mini crisis, which was always met head-on with a cheerful "can do" attitude and frequent bouts of song.
