American Beauty- scene analysis

American Beauty scene analysis- Representation- During this scene, Lester is presented as a very childlike character and his supposedly father and alpha male like stereotype is replaced by his daughter Jane, as she is displayed as much more sophisticated and mature. Additionally his wife, Carolyn, is a very formal lady as her character emphasises authority through her actions. As the family are united at the dinner table they appear to the audiences eye as vulnerable. Lester is not a stereotypical alpha male due to his immature habits for example when in the presence of his own wife he mutters under his breath which suggests he can't feel he can talk due to his patronising wife's behaviour and attitudes. Throughout this scene it is clearly portrayed that Carolyn intimidates Lester, which however does not convey a typical, conventional family. News values Typical tabloid readers are attracted to this newspaper due to its enlarged and bold headline quoting, 'BBC'c Brexit bias storm' which contains an alliteration. The concrete noun, 'storm' exaggerates and generates the effect that the BBC have created a disaster regarding the Brexit outcome. The headline grabs the attention of the audience as Brexit has had a massive impact on the individuals in todays society. Additionally, the use of the adjective, 'gloomy' constructs a negative approach as well as appealing to the elderly audience. The language techniques used allow the audience to form a better picture in their mind on the topic of Brexit. The article is written in a formal tone and is critical towards the BBC and puts the reader in a position with the Brexit voters.

Rhianna-Kiss it better In this music video, Rhianna hardly makes eye contact with the camera therefore their isn't a very strong relationship between the singer and the audience and she doesn't exactly connect with them. The singer very briefly engages with the audience however she mainly looks around and closes her eyes when singing. The audience examines the way she moves and dances around using low levels which imply she has a lower status or a less meaningful purpose. For the male audience, when watching this video it is pleasurable for them as women are made to be seen as objects used for male visual pleasure. This is known as voyeurism which is, 'the practise of gaining sexual pleasure from watching others when they are engaged in sexual activity' as well as displaying little clothing on their body.
