Rhianna-Kiss it better
In this music video, Rhianna hardly makes eye contact with the camera therefore their isn't a very strong relationship between the singer and the audience and she doesn't exactly connect with them. The singer very briefly engages with the audience however she mainly looks around and closes her eyes when singing. The audience examines the way she moves and dances around using low levels which imply she has a lower status or a less meaningful purpose. For the male audience, when watching this video it is pleasurable for them as women are made to be seen as objects used for male visual pleasure. This is known as
voyeurism which is, 'the practise of gaining sexual pleasure
from watching others when they are engaged in sexual
activity' as well as displaying little clothing on their body.
Contrasting with that, women view this video as degrading
to their gender as well as feeling insecurities as Rhianna is
displaying what society views as a 'perfect figure'. The
representation of Rhianna is very provocative due to the
lack of clothing she wears. It is not necessary to show your
body off in this way, however she is proving that she has self confidence. Rhianna adopts a self fulfilling prophecy as she lives up to the label of a female sex icon. Rhianna wears a small dress in parts of this video however in other parts she is wearing nothing as well as that she wears some jewellery and a full face of makeup. The video is is black and white which gives her more of a sophisticated look and really highlights and focuses on the flawless parts of
her body. In this video, the audience is portrayed to have the most power due to the fact that Rhianna appears as if she is selling
her body. During this video, Rhianna performs a variety of movements which wouldn't necessarily be performed by a usual dancer she does this because in the music industry it is very competitive therefore to gain a larger audience she shows off her body which in fact gains male attention.
